Why Slovak to English is harder than it looks
No articles, so English has to invent them. Kúpil som knihu is “I bought a book” or “the book,” with nothing to say which. The choice comes from context, and a short message rarely has enough.
Case endings free the word order. Slovak can put the emphasised word first because the endings keep the roles clear. English cannot, so the sentence needs rebuilding rather than reordering.
Aspect decides whether something is finished. Písal som is “I was writing” and napísal som is “I wrote and finished.” The difference is factual, and it is carried in the verb rather than in an auxiliary.
Slovak is not Czech, even where it looks like it. The two share a great deal and diverge in endings, vocabulary and spelling. Detection has to get this right before translation can.
