Why English to Slovak is harder than it looks
Slovak and Czech are close enough for software to conflate them. Speakers understand each other easily, and the languages still differ in spelling, endings and everyday words. A translation that drifts into Czech is understood and clearly not Slovak.
Six cases reshape nouns, adjectives and names. Writing to Jana, the form changes depending on whether you are addressing her, writing about her or giving something to her. English adds prepositions instead and leaves the name alone.
Past-tense verbs show the speaker’s gender. Bol som from a man, bola som from a woman. An English sentence never says, so this is the thing to check in the preview on personal messages.
Diacritics are not decoration. Slovak distinguishes a from á and o from ô, and the difference changes the word. Messages typed without them are common and harder to translate accurately.
